The Grantee Evaluation Management System (GEMS®) is an integrated approach to data and information management for organizations that receive grant funding.
The Problem
Grants have an insatiable appetite for data. Line workers need to know about the people or community for whom they are providing services. Supervisors need to know who receives what services, when and for how long. Managers need to know how efficiently and effectively the work was done. Evaluators need to know if outcomes were achieved. Directors and boards need to know if goals and objectives were met. Grant making organizations need to know if they are meeting national goals and objectives. Everybody wants to improve quality continuously. All of this takes data and data analysis. It seems that there is a different data system for all of these needs into which the same information has to be entered. Even after the data is entered, not everyone knows how to write special queries or do elaborate database manipulation. Wouldn’t it be nice if the data only had to be entered once and a system took it from there to meet everybody’s needs? That’s what GEMS® does. |
